-
- Well you can refuse to use Studio because of it's High price, but now your
- STUCK! You shouldn't have bought a HP printer knowing they don't support the
- Amiga! That's easy to find out by calling HP or any other printer company
- and asking. There are some still out there that do support the Amiga.
-
- I knew ahead of time before I bought my HP-660C that Amiga's were not
- supported, and I was told about Studio Printer II and it's cost before hand.
- I think the price of Studio is fair. It FULLY supports HP's and all there
- features. You don't just get printer drivers though, you get a GREAT program
- to print out Graphic Pictures with, Single page, or a Large Picture on Multi-
- Pages, supporting Many Many graphic formats and also Datatype support. It's
- also the ONLY Amiga printing software/drivers that support the CMS (Color
- Management System, so that what your see on your screen, is who it looks on
- the printed page. Sure it's not CHEAP. I know it seems high for that low
- cost HP-600 printer you have. If you don't want to buy it, Stick with
- Commodores HP Deskjet driver, and check out the program on Aminet called HP-
- Control (I think), it allows you to set more of the settings on the HP printer
- then the regular Commodore Prefs program. I don't know if you can set 600x600
- mode or not. There also also I believe 54 differnt dithering paterns you can
- use to get some cool printouts!
-
- I can do 600x600 with my Final Writer though. My settings are, which what
- Studio driver is set for is,
-
- Density 1 = 300x300
- 2 = 600x600
- 3 = 150x150
- 4 = 300x300
- 5 = 600x300
- 6 = 600x600
- 7 = 300x300
-
- This is what's shown on the Density Settings for Final Writer. Nice and easy
- to set what Density you need for the print Quality and Paper type that your
- using. Like #5 would be Color on Glossy Paper.
-
- All I can say is it works GREAT! It's still being supported, you can E-Mail
- the author on problems, whatever. updates keep comming out. HP's seem the be
- the MOST supported printer of all that it supports. The last update, just a
- few months ago had all kinds of new HP updates/support.
-
- I beleive HP did at one point support the Amiga, they had a downgraded Studio
- driver that they would give out, though if you wanted better support you would
- still need to buy Studio. Other Printing companys that are still supporting
- the Amiga, I believe there also using Studio drivers, but if you wanted all
- the extra's, you would still need to buy Studio. It all depends on your
- needs. Maybe you can wait for AmigaDOS 4.0 maybe they'll Update the
- HP-Deskjet driver. Of course Improving the Printer Prefs would be requiered
- also.
